## What the chart shows

Global AI data centre power capacity reached about 29.6 gigawatts by the fourth quarter of 2025, 2.2 times the 13.5 GW of a year earlier and close to New York state’s peak electricity demand of about 31 GW.

The chips themselves account for about 11.8 GW. The other 17.7 GW covers cooling, networking and the rest of the data centre.

## Key numbers

| Measure | Value |
| -------------------------------------- | ------- |
| Total, Q4 2025 | 29.6 GW |
| Total, Q4 2024 | 13.5 GW |
| AI chip power, Q4 2025 | 11.8 GW |
| Cooling, networking and other, Q4 2025 | 17.7 GW |

## How to read it

- Estimated from the rated power (thermal design power) of leading AI chips sold, multiplied by about 2.5 to cover the rest of the data centre.
- Reference lines are the AI Index’s own comparisons.
