## What the chart shows

Epoch AI’s records of publicly documented AI models count 1,618 released in the United States from 2010 to 2025, almost twice China’s 849\. Europe and Central Asia follow with 666.

China’s total more than quintupled from 151 in 2022, while the US total grew from 237 in 2018\. East Asia and the Pacific (excluding China) reached 330 and the rest of North America 125\. The Middle East and North Africa (74), South Asia (21) and Latin America and the Caribbean (2) remain small; the AI Index notes that model reporting is less systematic there.
