## What the chart shows

Inventors in China received 97,988 AI patents in 2024, about six times the 15,920 granted to US inventors. Ten years earlier, in 2014, China’s total was 1,254.

US grants have also grown, more than fivefold since 2014 (2,920), but far more slowly.
