311 generative AI companies received their first funding in 2025, down 16% from 372 in 2024\. It is the first fall in the series, which starts at 31 in 2019.

The count fell in the same year that total private investment in generative AI more than tripled to $170.9 billion ([related chart](https://aiadoption.org/data/generative-ai-investment-2025/)).
