What the chart shows

Over 2019 to 2025 combined, authors in the United States had 3,865 responsible AI papers accepted at AAAI, AIES, FAccT, ICML, ICLR and NeurIPS, nearly twice China’s 2,015. The United Kingdom (646), Germany (483) and Canada (383) followed.

88 countries and territories had at least one paper; 16 had 100 or more, and 18 had exactly one. China had more papers than the US in 2025 alone (related chart), but the US lead over the whole period is large.

How to read it

  • A paper with authors in several countries counts for each, so the country totals (10,417) add up to more than the 5,949 papers counted over 2019–2025.
  • Hong Kong and Macau are counted separately from China. Hover labels show the ISO country codes used in the data file.
  • The data file labels the counts submissions; the report describes them as accepted papers.
