What the chart shows

Across the five application areas the IFR reports, 207,000 service robots were installed in 2024, slightly more than the 205,000 of 2023 and more than twice the 94,000 of 2021. Transport and logistics robots made up 103,000, about half.

Professional cleaning (from 12,000 to 26,000) and medical and healthcare (from 6,000 to 17,000) grew most in 2024. Hospitality fell from 54,000 to 42,000, transport and logistics from 113,000 to 103,000 and agriculture from 20,000 to 19,000.

How to read it

  • Totals are the sum of the five application areas shown, from data rounded to the nearest thousand.
  • The AI Index text says agriculture grew 2.5-fold and only hospitality declined. The data shows agriculture down from 20,000 to 19,000 in 2024 (it grew 2.5 times in 2023) and declines in transport and logistics as well as hospitality. We use the data.
